"John
Larriva's
paintings
have
a visual weight, a darkness and paint texture
from which the colors, hues, patinas, and reflected light rebel
outward. The colors and surfaces seem to rise with an intention
to be confrontive, to not be restrained. To criticize Larriva's
strong colors is to miss the point of his images' intended volumes." ~sexualityinart.wordpress.com I wasn't born with a pencil in my hand, though I did start drawing soon after. Like many children, I drew my favorite cartoon characters and later became obsessed with comic books. I had an excellent art teacher in high school who taught me many of the foundations of good art making. These foundations would be reiterated in college where I studied fine art. I left college before earning my degree, and have been "self-taught" since. My clients include publisher Orion's Bell LLC, bands Brainsic and Caguama, and private commissioners. My art was featured in the group exhibit La Fiesta Inadaptados, on the prestigious Canyon Road, Santa Fe, New Mexico in 2004. I currently reside in rainy Portland, Oregon, with my wife.
